September 2011
2011 has been a busy one for Sally so far - starting with the
Summer Season of "The Comedy of Errors" as Dowsabel with the Australian Shakespeare Company in the
Royal Botanic Gardens until March, then straight into researching
for the documentary "Franz Stampfl: The Man Behind the Miracle Mile",
followed by filming and performing live in "The Ken &
Barbie Killers" for The Rogues Gallery (an Incognita Enterprises/ Cinema Viscera
co-production) in June.
She then played the semi-regular role of "Lee's Mum"
(or "Mrs Zachariah" - not sure yet how she'll be credited)
for the new ABC2 comedy series "The Bazura Project" (which airs
on September 29th) and is now in pre-production for the aforementioned
Franz Stampfl documentary as writer/director!
Busy, busy, busy! |

January 2011
Well, 2010 finished off with a bang! Sally again accepted the
invitation to be a Juror for the 2010 AFI Awards, juggling watching and
assessing nearly every Australian feature film released over
the past 12 months with her rehearsal and performance commitments
with the Australian Shakespeare Company's The Comedy Of Errors (now running
as the ASC's 2010/2011 Shakespeare Under the Stars season
at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne! Plug, plug!).
The AFI Awards night itself was a blast, with a slick awards
ceremony presentation at The Regent Theatre and fun after party
at the Regent Theatre Ballroom. Sally attended with her partner,
Billy Smedly (both pictured left at the After Party on the night)
and was delighted to catch up with so many industry colleagues
and friends. Congratulations and thanks to the AFI Awards team
on producing yet another brilliant industry night! |

December 2010
It's been a busy year, capped off with Sally's return to the
Australian Shakespeare Company, reprising her role as "Dowsabel"
in Comedy of Errors at the Royal Botanic
Gardens, Melbourne (as pictured left) for the ASC's "Shakespeare
Under The Stars" season. Yes, she gets to don that fat suit
for another run, playing the "mad mountain of flesh"
for another season! The show opens on December 21, 2010 and runs
until March 12, 2011. Tickets available via Ticketmaster on 136
100 or book online here.

No, Sally hasn't suddenly put on a LOT of weight, she is currently
appearing as "Dowsabel" in the Australian Shakespeare
Company's Comedy of Errors at the Athenaeum
Theatre, Melbourne (as pictured left). Described as "a mad
mountain of flesh", the amazing costume (built by Karla
Erenbots) means she certainly fits the description! As Sally
says in her blog "It's been a joy to work with
such a brilliant group of actors who not only "get"
Shakespeare but are so great to share a stage with ... Glenn
Elston's direction proves yet again that the ASC's greatest strength
is being true to the Bard, at the same time making him accessible
and relevant to modern audiences.". |
May 2010
Its been a busy few months, with a couple of TV roles, new showreel
and a couple of new projects. Sally also had the pleasure of
being invited to play the role of the French Headmistress, "Zoraide"
in a rehearsed reading of Julia Britton's adaptation of Charlotte
Bronte's The Professor at 45 downstairs, directed by Robert
Chuter (Sally pictured left with Aaron J March). In other news,
Sally is about to begin work on the WW2 web TV series 'Till
The Boys Come Home, set in Melbourne during 1942, adapted
from her 2004 play P.S. I Love You, with her in the role
of "Elsie". |

The AFI's are over for another year ...
Latest News
Sally had the pleasure of being a Juror for the 2009 AFI Awards (no easy task by any
stretch of the imagination - there was a very strong field),
which meant she also attended the main awards night on Saturday,
December 12th, held at the stunning Regent Theatre, Melbourne.
Host, Julia Zemiro did a fabulous job, as did MC Jeremy Kewley
and a great night was had by all. Pictured left is Sally with
fellow actress Janet Watson-Kruse at the Awards prior to the
ceremony. More photos coming soon! Special thanks to John Elliot of Elliot Hair for his hairdressing
expertise and Steph
Hooke for her stylist skills! |

dog with a bandaged head. If you don't watch TV, you can see
the ad here.

is now due for launch at the beginning of December. On the writing/producing

July 2009
So much has been happening over the past six months! Where to
start!?!
Latest Film News
Sally has been busy working on several film projects, the most
fun being the short film "Lightbringer", where she
got to play "Beatrice" (right), a 14 year old girl
trapped in a 30+ woman's body. Sound familiar? Well, add the
twist of the girl being Irish, it being set at the turn of the
20th Century in rural Australia and throw in a demon or two and
you have a whole other kind of film. Directed by Claire Forgie,
shot on 16mm and filled with Jane Austen style dresses and tresses
- this film was great fun to work on (not to mention the make
up special effects used as well! 6 hours in the chair for one
shot!!)
Why Must The Show Go On?
Directed by Paul Anthony Nelson, Sally co-wrote and produced
this film with Perri Cummings, as well as playing the lead of
"Madeleine", the driven and dictator-like Artistic
Director of Unbelieveable Productions. |

Tales" (working title), due to shoot in October. Sally will
also be playing a role in the series. She also wrote and produced
the pilot for the web TV series, "D.A.T.E. Me" for

2008
Lots to report, in different areas - Sally's recorded some new
music tracks, as well as branching out with her writing ...
Sally's writing updates
Sally has been busy writing, with a comedy series, short and
feature film now in various stages of development. Sally is also
about to begin work on her doco "Franz Stampfl: The Man Behind the Miracle Mile".
Sally returns to music
She has also returned to music, recording (live) three new tracks,
which will be released later this year. These were produced by Yanni Dellaportas,
and you'll hear a sample of his brilliant acoustic guitar work
on "Rainbow Connection" and his composition work on
the bonus "Brigit & Benny" (2005) soundtrack sample
(also featuring Sally as the vocalist). There are now plans for
Sally to record an acoustic EP. Stay tuned for updates on that
one!
June - August 2008
Far too much has been going on since the last update, but here
goes ...
|
Sally's latest TV gig
Sally has finished filming the role of "Miss Julie"
for Jonathan M Shiff's "Elephant Princess". The series
will air on Channel 10 later this year. Look out for the character
with the most severe hairdo and amazingly theatrical make up
(it's okay - it's meant to look like that) - and that will be
her.
Sally's latest theatre gig
Sally has also finished romping around the Royal Botanical Gardens
as part of the cast for "Romeo & Juliet" (playing
Lady Montague and understudying Lady Capulet & the Nurse).
It was Sally's first foray into Shakespeare in the Park with
the Australian Shakespeare Company and she thoroughly enjoyed
every minute! |

Inset: Sally with Bill Hunter |
Sally's latest film gig
Sally finished filming the role of "Lisa" in the film
"Interchange" (above) directed by Paul Anthony Nelson.
For a film that focused on football, she surprisingly enjoyed
every second of being on set. Great cast and crew, great script
and great character. A definite highlight was meeting Australian
screen legend, Bill Hunter. Her next film gig will be a role
for the short film "A Short History of Mime", shooting
in August.
